nothing heals me like you do
“Come on!” Nathan gently grabbed Haley’s hand, and guided her towards the docks. He swiftly lifted her off of the ground and near the boathouse on the docks.

“Was I walking too slow for you, Mr. Big-Shot-Free-Shot?” Haley giggled at her husband’s obvious impatience.

“They’re called free-throws, Haley.” Nathan smiled at his wife’s attempts to show her knowledge of basketball trivia. She always tries to show the slightest bit of interest to let him know that she’s trying. What she fails to realize is that she’s never had to try with him. She never has.

“Whatever. I can barely keep up with you and that silly game.” Haley teased, enjoying seeing Nathan smile. It was so rare nowadays. Especially after what happened at the school last week. It was still fresh in everybody’s minds. Nobody could escape it, no matter how much they wanted to.

“And yet, you still come to cheer for me at every single one of those silly games?” Nathan laughed, wrapping his hands around her tiny waist.

“You know why.” Haley whispered, drawing her face closer to Nathan’s so that she was just mere inches away from his mouth.

“I think you need to refresh my memory.” Nathan bore a puzzled expression on his face before he stepped closer, closing the gap between them.

Haley gently brought Nathan’s face to hers, sighing before she was greeted with Nathan’s warm lips.

Nathan, reluctant to pull away, gently pushed Haley away from him. “I did bring you out here for a reason, you know.”

“If it wasn’t to kiss me, leaving me breathless, then would ever could it possibly be for?” Haley raised her eyebrows in jest. “You’re not planning to murder me, are you?”

“You always were the smart one.” Nathan teased, causing him to receive a slap from Haley.

“Shut up!” Haley smiled, pretending to walk away. She didn’t get that far until Nathan stopped her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders.

“I’m sorry.” Nathan replied, his voice taking a serious tone. He stepped about ten inches away from her. “I’m not a traditional guy, but I wanted to do this the right way.”

“Nathan, what are you…” Haley’s voice trailed off as she saw Nathan get down on one knee.

“I’m nothing without you, Haley.” Nathan began, taking Haley’s hands in his. “I’ve always known that. And with everything that happened last week…”

“Nathan…” Haley whispered, trying to interrupt him.

“Last week just confirmed that fact.” Nathan continued, ignoring Haley’s interruption. “I don’t ever want to be without you. It might sound cheesy but, you’re the only reason why I get up in the morning. I live for you, Haley. For us.”

Haley used her free hand to wipe away the tears that were threatening to fall from her eyes. She used her thumb to warm Nathan’s cold hands.

“Would you…” Nathan started up again, trying to correctly phrase his words. “Would you marry me….again?”

Haley, overwhelmed with happiness, yelled out an extremely audible, “Yes!”

Nathan, standing up and grabbing Haley, twirled her around in his arms. For the first time, in a really long time, both felt like everything would soon be alright. Things would not be perfect by any means of the word, but rather like the London rain. A little rain that was always followed by sunshine.
